Get the look: The truth about pores
Pores may seem to be a necessary evil, but they have an important function. They act as a conduit through which oil glands are able to distribute oil to keep skin moist. They cannot open or close, as all those beauty magazines have been telling us for years. There is a point to splashing cold water on skin, though, because it can help reduce excess oil production and heat can stimulate oil glands to produce more.
What happens to make pores look more crater-like, however, is age – constituents of the skin, such as elastin, start to decrease, which makes pores stretch.
