Diets and healthy weight: Eat when you’re hungry

A study into starvation found that drastically reducing people’s diet made them hoard, steal and lie about food, which continued once restrictions were lifted. Dysfunctional patterns of thinking about food set up a powerful, neuro-chemical change in the brain that leads to false hunger signals and patterns of craving and bingeing. And when you don't eat when you're hungry, your body stores fat as well as slowing down your metabolism to conserve energy. So eat when you feel hungry and within a few days, you should reset your body’s natural mechanisms and your metabolism will stabilise.
