The simple way to get retro curly hair

Want to know the easiest, cheapest and kindest way to style hair into retro waves? Start by lightly spraying down clean hair with water at night and tying it into plaits – the more plaits, the wavier it will be – securing at the bottom with covered bands, ribbon or string. Start each plait a few inches from the scalp to avoid too bushy a result. Then go to bed. The heat emanating from your head during the night should leave the plaits thoroughly dry by morning. Unwind each one and shake out, raking through with fingers only – using a brush will make the waves frizz. You won't have been able to plait right down to the very end of each section so use tongs to finish off straggly bits, then smooth through sections with a tiny dab of serum.
