Colour and care: How to go blonde safely

The first thing to remember is to choose a shade that suits your hair's condition. If you're thinking of lightening up, avoid going really light if your hair's dry or curly and tends to be drier when straightened – especially if you regularly use flat irons on it.

And don't forget, the lighter you move away from your natural colour, the more maintenance it will need. Increased exposure to the higher concentrations of peroxide in lighter formulations can seriously damage already fragile hair types, too.
